| Higher * Faster * Stronger |
| You are an athlete. You know what it means to challenge yourself, to suffer and to push your body harder and for longer periods of time, in order to make the gains you want in your performance. Unfortunately, what it takes to build yourself up, is also the same thing that causes you to break down. Difficult training regimes, repetitive motions (swimming, running, cycling) and overworked muscles stress an athlete's body. The repetitive motion, constant tension and pressure required in many sports can cause inflamation and small tears in the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments & fascia.) The body's natural response is to heal the damage to the soft tissue by laying cross fibers over the affected area. These new fibers are scar tissue, or adhesions. The adhesions keep muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia from sliding across each other properly. The result is tight, short, weak muscles and restricted joint movement. Adhesions & Scar Tissue: * Restricts motion. * Reduces circulation. * Inhibits nerve function. * Causes continual friction and pressure. * Results in the production of yet more cross fibers and adhesions across inflamed soft tissues. There is a solution Active Release Technique (ART) is extremely effective in treating soft tissue injury (ligaments, muscles, blood vessels, fascia and nerves). Dr. Mirabella uses ART to break up adhesions and restore the muscle to its normal functioning state. ART treatment has been shown to substantially decrease healing time, treat the root cause of the injury, and improve athletic performance. To learn more about ART, please visit our "What is ART" page. Other physical therapies such as heat, electric stim, ultrasound and massage may help temporarily, or clear up the issue over a long period of time, but ART helps quickly and permanently. You may find that stretching just doesn't seem to be as effective as it used to be. Scar tissue is stronger than regular tissue, therefore when you stretch, the healthy tissue stretches but the scar tissue is unaffected. Once Dr. Mirabella releases the scar tissue, stretching will once again be effective. Athletes don't have time to be injured. Every day of less than ideal training sets you back further from your goals. Come in and let Dr. Mirabella get you back on track. |
